About The FUNctional SLP
Makayla McCune, M.S., CCC-SLP is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and the founder of The FUNctional SLP. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Baylor University in 2022 and her Master of Science in 2024.
Makayla has experience across early intervention, outpatient clinics, and school settings. Her clinical focus includes speech sound production, receptive and expressive language development, and social communication, with an emphasis on functional communication that supports success in everyday environments.
Makayla is passionate about play-based, evidence-informed, and neuro-affirming therapy. She prioritizes building strong therapeutic relationships and collaborating closely with families through parent coaching to promote meaningful progress and carryover.
The FUNctional SLP exists to support effective communication by celebrating neurodiversity and embracing play as a powerful tool for learning. Using evidence-based strategies and a strengths-based approach, we create fun, engaging therapy experiences that promote functional communication and meaningful connection.
At The FUNctional SLP, the goal is to provide fun, purposeful therapy that helps communication skills generalize beyond the therapy room—where they truly matter.
